Canberra Kiting - Your kite flying hub in and around Canberra

A friendly group of people that live in and around Canberra Australia, enjoying the thrill and beauty of kite flying.

Any one interested in any aspect of flying kites is more than welcome to make contact with us. If you fly a single line, stunt or a large foil type high performance kite, please do not hesitate to drop a line to Canberra Kiting. Presently we are focused on high performance kite flying. But we hope that as more people discover us, that we will reflect all aspects of kiting.

Snow Kiting to Mt Kosciuszko summit, 6 Sept 2008
Event ReportTim (skier), Ben (techno) and I (VB) hit the top of Thredbo at 10.30am, launched our kites on the otherside of the footbridge in a SE blowing at 10-12 knots and headed straight for Mt Kosciuszko. Arrived at the summit 25 minutes later, basically following the steel walkway route (which in places was already exposed!). Pat and Dave also made the trip, so it was like Pitt Steet up there. The SE picked up when we got to the top (estimate 20 knots), and I went sailing on into Victoria (or so Tim and Ben thought!). I had dropped my 6m Samurai 4 line foil, but one of the lines got caught on a small rock which meant that the kite still wanted to explore Victoria. Thanks to Tim who rescued the kite, which was duly packed up. We all skied down the face of the big hill, before Ben and I skied down to Seaman's Hut, before re-launching our kites and snow kiting back to Thredbo top station beating up wind. Tim in the meantime snow kited to the top of Charlottes Pass before joining us back to Thredbo. The day was absolutely awesome!!
